Farmer’s Helpers– Drumlin Farm

Saturday, May 9, 3:30pm ~ 5pm Register

Ever wondered what it really takes to run a farm? Roll up your sleeves and find out! Families will help take care of our sheep, goats, and cows by feeding them their evening meals, keeping the barns clean, and making sure everyone is warm and cozy before nightfall.

Activities will vary based on the livestock team’s schedule and what the season brings, which means each session brings something new, connecting families to sustainable farming and the animals that make it all happen.

Warm and Wolly – Drumlin Farm

Sat, May. 30, 10:00 am – 11:30 am Register
Sat, Jun. 6, 10:00 am – 11:30 am Register

Cozy up with the sheep on the farmyard and feed them their hay and find out how our farmer takes care of them. Learn about the many ways wool is used, from sweaters to rugs. Then, try your hand at processing fiber until it is silky smooth and ready for spinning, and make a craft to take home.

Firefly Safari – Drumlin Farm

Sat, May. 30, 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm Register

Observe one of nature’s most magical summer displays up close! Step into the meadows of Drumlin Farm after dark and witness the magic of fireflies while learning what their flashing light really means.

On this evening walk, a naturalist will guide you through Drumlin Farm’s meadows as the light show begins, helping you decode the flashing signals fireflies use to find each other and diving into the science of bioluminescence.

Beavers at Dusk – Ipswich River

Sat, May. 9, 6:30 pm – 8:00 pm Register

The best time to catch beavers in action is right at dusk, when these normally elusive master engineers emerge to go about their work. This evening walk follows the Rockery Trail into the wetlands as the sun sets, searching for an active beaver lodge, listening for the dramatic slap of a tail on the pond’s surface, and looking for the telltale signs of beaver activity along the water’s edge.

Along the way, you might also spot a Great Blue Heron hunting in the shallows, hear frogs calling, or find a turtle settling in for the night. It’s a rich, living snapshot of why wetland habitats are so essential to the health of our landscapes.

Bread and Bunnies – Drumlin Farm

Saturday, May. 9, 10:00am ~11:30am Register

Hop on down to the kitchen for some hare-raising fun! We’ll start by whipping up a batch of delicious carrot bread inspired by our bunny’s favorite snack. Kids and grownups alike will enjoy mixing, measuring, and smelling the warm spices before getting a taste of this sweet, farm-fresh treat.

As our bread is baking, enjoy a visit with our rabbit ambassador in the farmyard. Get to know what makes rabbits so remarkable, from their twitchy noses to their powerful hind legs. Learn about their natural habitats, daily routines, and how we care for them here on the farm. Perfect for curious kids and families who love animals, baking, and a little farmyard fun!

Turtle Time – Drumlin Farm

Sunday, May. 31, 2:00 pm – 3:30 pm Register

Some sun themselves on logs while others lurk below the surface, but all of New England’s turtles are full of surprises. Start this family-friendly program with a close-up encounter with one of Drumlin Farm’s turtle wildlife ambassadors, diving into what makes each species so well-suited to its habitat.

Then, head out on the trails, visiting the ponds, forests, and meadows where turtles like to hide, to try to spot them living wild around the sanctuary. Along the way, learn how these remarkable reptiles find food, survive the winter, and what challenges they face in today’s landscape.

Vernal Pool Exploration – Habitat, Belmont

Sat, May. 9, 10:00am – 11:30am Register

Every spring, seasonal pools appear as if by magic in Habitat’s woods, teeming with life! Visit the vernal pool to discover the unique animals who call it home. Using ponding tools, you’ll see what hidden creatures you can find beneath the surface, then play outdoor games to learn how these temporary pools are havens for wood frogs, fairy shrimp, and other critters.

Innovators and Influencers – Chinese Women Artists of the Past Millennium

On view through June. 23

Women have long created visually appealing objects for their friends, families, and communities, using a wide variety of techniques, styles, and media. This exhibition features paintings and textiles made or inspired by women in China over the past four centuries. The works do not fit neatly into a single category, as the artists who created them pursued their own personal paths, in turn opening new aesthetic opportunities for those who followed in their footsteps. While the names and works of too many female artists have been lost, extant paintings and other objects like the ones collected here convey the richness these women imparted to their contemporaries and later generations. Visitors can explore this rich tapestry of works and discover the indelible contributions many of these women, innovators and quiet influencers, made to Chinese and world art history.
